Holy Ribbons

Holy Ribbons

Sharing is indeed caring, right? ;)

.

It’s not the first time they do that, we know.

.

But seeing Rob with her back pack…

.

.

.

Or was it her with his backpack in July?

.

.

.

oh, well… Fact is: indeed the same hobo one.

.

But let’s see what gave away the sharing… and made it pretty obvious to us.

.

The little ribbons, yes. But they’re not regular ribbons… nope! They’re…

.

.

Holy Ribbons!

.

.

And I’m not even kidding.

.

These little ribbons come from Brazil, where we call them:

Fitinhas do Bonfim.

.

They’re very popular and have been used by Brazilian designers in many different ways.

.

I myself have them represented in my canga!
Canga is a piece of colorful cloth we wear to protect ourselves from the hot sand at the beach, and/or to cover our hot bodies when we have those teeny tiny bikinis on. err… wut.

.

.
But what makes these little ribbons holy? The fact that the holycouple wears them? That too, but not only that.

.

.

These fitinhas do bonfim possess a side that few actually know.

.

Each color symbolizes an Orixá (or deity of the Yoruba religion). Whichever the color, the ribbon holds a symbolic, aesthetic and spiritual representation typical of the Afro-Brazilian culture.

.

.

The light blue ones are for Iemanjá (goddess of the seas) and the color represents prosperity.

.

Multiple chances for a miracle are obtained as the wearer makes a wish each time one of three knots are tied to secure them. No wish will be granted unless the cloth is permitted to wear until it disintegrates naturally.

source

.

Three wishes for each ribbon. And there are two of them there…

.

So, what do you think R&K wished for? ;)

.

Share your guesses with us on the comments! And Axé to all awesome people who share their pictures because, again… nothing is ours. Even that canga is just very similar to mine.

I love these ribbons & what they represent. The culture behind it is beautiful. I need me some.

I’m hoping that with each of the three knots, he wished for the same thing. Baby. *ties first knot* Baby *ties second knot* Baby *ties third knot*

Let’s pray they didn’t waste it on wishing that Tom would shave…

Ooooh I am going to do a ribbon! I want to make three wished. Where can I see what the colors mean? As for Robsten? What did they wish for? Well…I can answer on the blue! In my opinion, since they spend so much time apart with the ocean between them, maybe they have wished:
    1. For safe return to each other as they travel
    2. For their love to travel over the ocean to the other
    3. To bond their love forever as they filmed their last scene in the ocean together.

Yes I am a sappy sap and I so think those wishes were for their love.
